Pillars of Peace - Peace Pledge
Jongeren uit diverse landen hebben deze nieuwe vredesboodschap opgesteld tijdens het symposium te Mesen naar aanleiding van de herdenking van het 25-jarig bestaan van het Island of Ireland Peace Park.
We komen samen als internationale leden van het Messines Youth Symposium, gesterkt door ons collectieve verlangen naar vrede, eenheid en gerechtigheid. We zijn geraakt door de ontroerende woorden die 25 jaar geleden in het Ierse Vredespark werden geschreven. Deze erkennen de offers die tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog werden gebracht en de collectieve wens voor een vreedzame toekomst. Deze vredesbelofte vernieuwt de hoop die 25 jaar geleden werden uitgesproken. We proberen de tragische geschiedenis, de levens die verloren zijn gegaan en onherstelbaar zijn veranderd tijdens beide wereldoorlogen, en alle geweld in de wereld te erkennen en te begrijpen. We voelen het gewicht van de uitdagingen van onze tijd, waaronder toenemend nationalisme en haat, aanhoudende discriminatie, de uitbuiting van de aarde en terugkerende gewelddadige uitbarstingen van historische conflicten. We beloven bij te dragen aan de vreedzame oplossing van conflicten en steunen slachtoffers van geweld en oorlog. We streven ernaar de natuur te beschermen in onze overgang naar een duurzame toekomst. We zullen liefdevolle en eerlijke gemeenschappen koesteren, waarin iedereen veiligheid en stabiliteit kan ervaren, en we zullen samenlevingen vormen waarin individuen hun volledige potentieel kunnen bereiken. We zullen bruggen van begrip bouwen in onze eigen context en bijdragen aan harmonieuze en levendige gemeenschappen. We hopen onenigheid te benaderen met empathie en nieuwsgierigheid, niet met geweld, en optimistisch te blijven op onze reis naar vrede, met deze hoop voor toekomstige generaties.
Young people from various countries created this new Peace Pledge at the symposium in Messines on the occasion of the 25th anniversary commemoration of the Island of Ireland Peace Park.
We come together, as international members of the Messines Youth Symposium empowered by our collective longing for peace, unity, and justice. We are moved by the emotive words written in the Island of Ireland Peace Park 25 years ago that acknowledge the sacrifices made during World War I and the collective wish for a peaceful future. This peace pledge reiterates the aspirations stated 25 years ago. We work to both acknowledge and comprehend the tragic history, the lives lost, and lives irreparably changed, during both World Wars and all violence across the world. We feel the weight of the specific challenges of our time, including growing nationalism and hate, continued discrimination, the exploitation of the earth and recurrent violent outbreaks of historical conflicts. We pledge to contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and support victims of violence and war. We strive to protect nature as we transition towards a sustainable future. We will nurture loving and fair communities, that allow all to experience safety and stability, and will shape societies that enable individuals to reach their full potential. We will build bridges of understanding in our own context, contributing to harmonious and vibrant communities. We hope to approach disagreement with empathy and curiosity, not with violence, remaining optimistic as we journey towards peace holding these hopes for future generations.
